More About Mrs. Vera Jean Walton Singleton

Vera Jean Walton Singleton was a virtuous woman, a caring daughter, a supportive sister and the epiphany of what a mother should be. She raised two educated, successful daughters, Tanaucha and Tanisha and a grandson, Trenton.  Vera came from humble beginnings and was raised by a single mother, along with her seven siblings (Martha, Oscar, J.D., Doris, Sheria, Clinton and Charlotte) she believed in education and thought of it as something that could never be taken away.  She encouraged her family to strive for excellence in all we did and not to "half do" anything.  She demonstrated strength, independence, confidence, and integrity through her daily living.  She lead by example, you could count on her to do as I do not, do as I say, although she expected you to do as she said as well.

Vera was married for nearly forty years to the love of her life, Franklin.  Together, they were a mighty force, a team. She was supportive and faithful, and allowed her husband to lead the household.  Franklin was the head, but Vera was surely the neck.  She taught both her daughters to read by the time they were three years old, she loved reading to her children and helping with homework and projects.  Vera aspired to be an educator but was met with many obstacles, and didn't achieve that goal but since she was a devoted provider and hard worker, she took on a long-time role at Tyson Foods in Flowers, MS.  On May 23rd, 2020, we lost our mother unexpectedly and the only way to honor and continue her legacy of excellence is through the encouragement of other students in financial need with a financial scholarship.    To begin, the scholarship will be in the amount of $500.00 to one deserving student.
